Prime Minister’s Praise

The press is popping with Pakistan’s PM, Imran Khan, praising India for following an independent foreign policy. Okay, a niche subsection of the press. Nevertheless, hold on to your seats, as bitter enmity is suspended to relish and savor the moment a country of some consequence that is typically inclined to follow the US’s lead decides to stand with the other side.

O look, over there, emerging from the crowd, is that Modi drying Putin’s brow and giving him a squirt of sustenance?

Well done Sir. You’re clearly thinking for yourself and doing what’s good for your people.

Really? Has it gotten that bad?

Humanity is not able to hold the line because there’s a short-term gain to be had in aligning with the hegemon of the minute against the hegemon of the Year, to the side the merits of the case at bar!?

And this from the Nation whose people brought us Karma. Is it really good for India to refuse to condemn the invasion of Ukraine and ignore sanctions and buy Russian oil at steep discounts?

These sanctions are in place because Putin is using the sovereignty of another nation and the threat of igniting WWIII as bargaining leverage – nevermind the loss of life, inflicted suffering and destruction.

Politics is a dirty business, to be sure, makes strange bedfellows and so on, but Putin is an easy No! For everyone. The invasion of Ukraine is an easy No! Even China, whose got a Ukraine of its own in Taiwan, is beginning to appear less Vladamorous than India.

Has anyone in the Press asked Imran Khan whether his praise would apply to Modi deciding to invade and reclaim Pakistan? Or is that no good for the Indian people?

As Ricky Gervais would say “Fuck off!”
